The First War

The First War Conflicts

The end of the First Age

Beginning

The First War conflicts began when a Bagroshi man named Delphi trekked into the Slottish desert on an expedition to make contact with the western-most tribes. Instead, he came in contact with House Azazel. Via Justin Walker’s direction, the tribes showed him a false face of their ideal of the Sanguin Creed – that of enslaving humans in order to protect them. He was treated as a guest of honor while there, and was shown parts of Azazel society that made him think the Azazel had the right of it. He returned home and began preaching the idea of slavery to his house, who slowly began introducing the concept.

Slavery grew into a world-encompassing trade. Not all Sanguin houses partook, however. The Bagroshi, Pad Loren, and Hurendrich were the houses that took it up most fully. The main forces that opposed slavery was the Vindi, Darendra, and the Daydrew. The Maynich also were opposed to slavery, although they had instituted a system not far different. Things came to a head when a group of Daydrew murdered a Bagroshi man who had beaten 3 slaves to death.

A meeting was called between all Sanguin houses. Things did not go smoothly, with a Daydrew elder named Ala’Acran being killed in recompense for the murder of the Bagroshi man. This killing sparked the First War.

Middle

Things started slowly, then escalated until nearly the entirety of all 6 houses were in a full-scale war. On the Delphian side were houses Shudalew, Hurendrich, Bagroshi, and Pad Loren. On the Alacranian side were the Vindi, Daydrew, and Darendra.

Each side had advantages and disadvantages, as their Sanguin abilities made their armies ideal for fighting in some circumstances and detrimental in others. The Vindi, however, never lost a battle the entire First War, although they rarely fought alongside their allies. The Daydrew and Darendrians did most of the hard fighting, with house Daydrew being the main fighting force on the Alacranian side. The could employ the Bagroshi, Pad Loren, and Hurendrich on the field, while the Shudalew were mainly players behind the scenes (making weapons, etc.).

Fighting continued for ten or so years until the figure known as the Rook emerged on the Delphian side. The Rook was a seemingly unstoppable force that decimated the Daydrew forces on the field. The Rook was also a brilliant tactician, sometimes even outmaneuvering the Vindi.

Twenty years into the war the Alacranians had been forced all the way back into their home country of Rhey, and were holding their line. The Daydrew set out on a daring expedition to get behind enemy lines, but the Rook somehow completely killed the entire army of around 14,000 Sanguin and humans in a single day, alone. This day would go down in history as Le Dia de Disecta Membra.

The Vindi and the Darendrians were left fighting alone, and by this time the Vindi had taken wholly to fighting the war. The Slottish Grassland had dried up at this point, forcing a mass migration of the area and flooding the Kornell river with refugees. This caused conflict behind Delphian lines and they were weakened in the front.

The Maynich, having heard of the death of house Daydrew, joined the side of the Alacranians and proceeded to push the Delphian forces back to where the fighting had originally started. At this point the grand general of the Delphian armies, the Rook, simply vanished. Left leaderless, the Delphians gave ground until they were forced to flee behind Loma City’s walls.

Momentous Battles:

Battle of the Fell
Alacranian losses: 3,000 Daydrew dead, 500 Darendrian dead, 19,000 humans
Delphian losses: 2,200 Bagroshi dead, 1,900 Hurendrich dead, 24,000 humans

La Dia de Disecta Membra
Complete annihilation of house Daydrew, 14,000 Daydrew dead

Sack of Loma City
8,500 Hurendrich dead, 5,000 Pad Loren dead, 1,500 Bagroshi dead, 80,000 humans

End

There was a lull in the fighting as each side licked their wounds. Without telling their allies, the Vindi surprise attacked Loma City and burnt it to the ground in one day. They took as many hostages as they could, but the section of the city where the Hurendrich were staying was engulfed in an inferno and that entire house was lost.

The peace pact was dubbed the Loman Accords. In it the Delphians agreed to no longer hold slaves, and would be forced to relocate across the world so they could not be in contact. Both sides had taken extremely heavy losses, and the loss to human life was in the tens of millions. Both sides had committed atrocities.

Throughout the war three Sanguin houses had elected not to fight: house Humilis, Strophicus, and Kundilly. These struck out into the Baesta Grassland and erected Tenemen during the thirty some years of brutal fighting.
